Puerto Ricans Santiago and Acevedo win two matches on Friday's action

MONTELIMAR, Nicaragua, October 30, 2009 – The teams of Puerto Rico, United States,  Mexico and Canada had the best results in the first day of action at the Nicaragua Tournament, the last leg of the 2009 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit.

 

The Puerto Rican pair of Yarleen Santiago and Darian Acevedo won their two matches of the day In the first one they beat Belize (Cadle- Blanco) 21-4, 21-5 and then defeated the duo of Costa Rica (Alfaro-Morales) 21-19, 21-10.

 

The teams of United States, Canada and Mexico will go for a semifinal spot after winning their only match of the day. The Americans (Lowe-Smith) defeated the Dominican Republic (Rosario-Fabián) by score of  21-10, 16-21, 15-9.

 

Canada (Diotte-Dansereu) had a 22-20, 21-13 victory over Guatemala (Ramírez – Bolaños) and the Mexicans (Revueltas-Virgen)  had to battle to prevail against El Salvador (Soler-Molina) 22-20, 21-13.

 

The Satuday action starts at 9:00 a,.m. local time and will decide the four semi finalists of the tournament.

 

Friday’s results: PUR- BLZ (21-4,21-5); DOM-NCA 2 (21-11, 21-12); CAN-GUA (22-20, 21-13); ESA – NCA 1 (21-19, 21-7); PUR – CRC (21-19, 21-10); USA-DOM (21-10, 16-21, 15-9); MEX – ESA (22-20, 21-13).

 

In the women’s side 11 pairs are taking part. These are: Belice (Barbara Cadle-Thara Blanco); Costa Rica (Ingrid Morales-Natalia Alfaro); United States (Heather Lowe-Saralyn Smith);  Guatemala (Stefany Bolaños-Anna Ramírez); Canada (France Diotte-Eve Marie Dansereu); El Salvador (Ivonne Soler-Laura Molina); Puerto Rico (Yarleen Santiago-Darian Acevedo); Dominican Repúblic (Ginette Rosario-Ana Fabian); Mexico (Vanessa Virgen-Martha Revueltas); Nicaragua 1 (Lolette Rodríguez-Heydi Rostran) and Nicaragua 2 (Elia Torres-Karen López).

 

The tournaments of the 2009 Circuit started the continental qualifying process to the Olympic Games of 2012 in London and also to the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games of 2010 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
